I'm near Asheville. We're driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We see this road sign. The best road sign EVER. It is to warn of a big bump ahead. It is a picture of a bump, a motorcycle coming up off the ground, and a stickfigure flying off. Best road sign EVER. |

| | Starfield | ] | Everyone is crashing so I decided to go ahead and talk about prom...and then crash. It was SO much fun. I finished my dress, and everyone seemed to like it. A lot of people didn't know I made it which I assume is a good thing. Also, Andrew put together my corsage. Very impressive. (NOW you'll never hear me say that again, haha.) Before prom we ate at this couple's house that had a ferrari. Ferraris are insane. 60 mph on speedometer where 30 mph usually is. I didn't save my date a seat because there were few tables, but I did make him feel bad by standing beside his chair talking to him while he ate. Oh, and I "stole" his jacket. We took James Bond/swooning pictures. Andrew's dad wore my shawl. At prom everyone danced the entire time, and it was awesome. This is like the only year I've actually had the most fun at the actual prom part. Not saying the other stuff was bad; prom was just really fun. Andrew squints and people comment on my dancing. Peter looks like James Bond. I laughed at hip hop lyrics a lot. AND THEY HAD SOME GOOD SONGS! I was shocked. And, of course, me and Andrew tore up the dance floor. After prom we went to the river and looked at the stars. Gwyn and I fit into one sleeping bag (because she's retarded and not fat) and hung out. The next morning I hung out with Sean and Adam until everyone else woke up and we went out swimming. Picture Gwyn not wanting to get it over with and go completely in the cold water. Then Michael pulling her legs completely out and her holding onto the pier for dear life. Yes, it's just as funny in real life. Also, she wouldn't let them dunk her to get her completely wet, so they poured water on her head instead. It was great. For the record, although I swore to keep the specific details hush-hushed, Andrew is an awesome prom date. Good job Andrew, even though you would not wear my shawl. We had no poking issues and we laughed at the programs and chicken fingers. I'm sorry you never got to embarrass me on the dance floor, but I did let you be noticeably taller than me. My only regret? I meant to dance with Michael Martin. Someday, Michael, someday I will get that dance.
P.S. Riding in a Mustang with the top down is really fun. |

| | Jars of Clay | ] | Well, all the realizations I was going to put in here I don't really care about at the moment. Ah the irony. New realizations . . . I need to do something this summer like maybe helping out with Will and others with visiting migrant farm workers, maybe seeing if the battered women's shelter needs help, maybe something else. I don't know yet. But waiting around just to hang out just isn't going to cut it anymore. I think I'll talk to one of the ministers and see if they know of anything. Another realization is that to have a pure and strong faith you have to have a solid understanding of everything. I told Gwyn this morning that I almost feel like a heathen or something to think this, but even though faith is what Christianity is based on, there are other things that have to be studied and answered. Our Sunday School book says something about how we are supposed to have faith like a child, not the knowledge of a child. Well, the answer to a few questions bothered me. One was how do you know without a doubt that there is more to life than what we can see? The answer given was because of faith and because we believe that the bible is truly the word of God. That answer isn't good enough anymore, and if it isn't good enough for me, why should it be good enough for a nonbeliever? Yes, christianity is based on faith. But since when did faith alone sustain a friendship or a belief? It isn't all faith. There is more to it. I feel like I'm still stuck with my middle school knowledge when I need the mindset and spirituality of an almost 18 year old. No, I am not doubting that God is there. What I am doubting is the substantiality of the knowledge I have. I have not learned enough to have the solid faith I need. So I'm going to have to find it. If I have questions that I can't answer, I can't answer anyone else's. Hopefully this journal won't worry anyone. Maybe you don't agree with what I'm going to do, but that's ok. I've been told many times that God does not frown on doubts, he wants you to doubt so you can strengthen your faith and your beliefs through him helping you find the answers. So that is what I am going to try and do. I'm not doubting God's existence, I could never do that, but I can no longer base my faith on the small pieces of God that others have fed me. My faith needs to be completely based on my own thoughts and views for it to truly last. And that is what I want. I want a faith that is true to myself and true to God. |

| | last three songs on the Starfield CD | ] | I don't want to go to school tomorrow!! Seriously, school is not even bearable this year. I just keep trying to get through it because I have to. Before this year there was enough reason to go that I wasn't itching so much for summer, but this year I cannot wait to get out. I have also come to realize that school gets in the way of seeing college people, but there isn't much I can do about that. Let's see, college people, soccer, ultimate frisbee, and stargazing are fun. Hopefully more of all of that to come during the summer. Ah yes, and the dusk till dawn poke fight. That will be intense. And I will win. Well, I am off to avoid the dishes. |

| | 80s Music | ] | Tonight was Rose's 80s night, and it was fun. I realized on my way home that tonight has been the first night in a long time that I have completely enjoyed myself without at some point wishing I was by myself somewhere. And who showed everyone her 80s hip hop moves? That's right, Emilia let it all out. I think I'm finally getting back to me, slowly but surely. It's about time, haha. OK, time to read and then sleep. Happy birthday to Michael! |

Oh, having people ask me all day if I was ok because my eyes were bloodshot and me actually feeling bad wasn't too great either. Haha. The weekend was great, I was sad to get back. I watched curling for the Olympics, very awesome. Apollo only got third, maybe next race. :( Hm...my right knee was almost entirely brown this morning, I was like whoa. But was it worth it? Heck yes it was, because trying to do jumps is awesomely fun. So yeah, I should get some work done so I can actually sleep (yeah right) instead of just staying up for no reason (yeah right). |

First mentor session is tomorrow. Found out she lives literally less than a minute from me which is awesome. When I asked for directions she asks, "OK, do you know where Covenant is?" What a silly question. Had some assembly today most of fourth period where these bodybuilders folded up rods and frying pans. No, I'm not kidding. Tomorrow I have to write 19 source cards. I hope that will be pretty easy. Well, nothing else to write so time to listen to music. |

| | Achy Breaky Heart | ] | Well, I'm back from the winter retreat. It was fun. Andrew G. is now addicted to knitting. (Woo!) I taught Chelsea and Hussey how to snowboard with Emily. Ryan's falls were hilarious, and so is his tassel dance. The trip was fun. Good times and good talks. Today I ate breakfast with a bunch of South Central people and played Scattegories with Nay, Chelsea, and Ryan. Apparently, the capital of Pennsylvania is Harrisburg, not Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. I should be reading Brave New World, but I don't feel like it. Hm...can't really think of what to type except that I really wish school would die and I need sleep. |
